In a thriller movie like turn of events, Enforcement Directorate (ED) unearthed cash worth around Rs 21.21 crores, ornaments, foreign currencies and documents from a close aide of Trinamool Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee and actress Arpita Mukherjee’s apartment in South Kolkata from a locked room in her apartment on Friday night. Chatterjee and Mukherjee were arrested this morning following marathon interrogation for more than 26 hours.What is most interesting is how Mukherjee came under ED scanner and several crores, found wrapped in government’s WBSSC envelopes in Mukherjee’s apartment, along with gold worth Rs 50 lakhs and foreign currencies close to Rs 58 lakh was also seized from her house, ED sources said.Raid at Partha Chatterjee’s residenceWhile raiding Trinamool Minister Partha Chatterjee’s house on Friday morning, ED found property documents of Arpita Mukherjee from Partha Chatterjee’s residence. He was questioned about the identity of Arpita Mukherjee but Chatterjee reportedly refused to give any satisfactory replies. Chatterjee reportedly refused to give any details about the property documents of Arpita Mukherjee. The agency officials then rushed to Arpita Mukherjee’s premises, which was not initially under ED scanner, when the agency officials reached the minister’s premises.Arpita was a small-time actress, who got roles in Tamil, Bengali and Odiya film industry and was a brand ambassador of Partha Chaterjee’s Durga puja at Naktala. Chatterjee frequently visited Mukherjee’s apartment and had close contact with her for the last several years, neighbours claimed. Arpita’s mother claimed that Chatterjee had even once visited their ancestral home also during a political programme near Belghoria.Raid at Arpita Mukherjee’s residenceDuring a raid at Arpita’s residence, the ED officials reportedly identified a locked room. Asked by the ED officials, Mukherjee reportedly claimed that she did not have the keys. ED then expressed their intention to break the lock, following which she gave the keys. The ED officials opened the door to find heaps of currency notes worth over Rs 21.21 crores, gold ornaments and foreign currencies, sources told ED.It is learnt that Mukherjee owned several apartments and she reportedly owned two apartments in Belghoria Club Town in North Kolkata. She allegedly had seven to eight luxury cars and lived extravagant and luxurious lives, neighbours said. Arpita’s mother Minati Mukherjee, who stays in their ancestral home, said, “My daughter was an actress. She used to do serials and movies. I don’t have any idea with whom she had contacts. I am worried about her. Children these days don’t listen to their parents.In Bolpur, Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherje allegedly owned jointly at Mrinalini apartment in Shantiniketan during 2015-17. In Shantiniketa, seven houses and apartments are under scanner, according to sources.It is learnt that professor Monalisa Das, who is also a close aide of Chatterjee, took care of several properties in Shantiniketan which were owned by the Trinamool secretary general.
